Lovely spotty flower. Is it perennial?
It is Chloris. Sarah Ravens Wildflower book states that it was introduced from islands off Alaska in the early nineteenth century and spread quickly. The seeds float on water until they germinate and its roots creep. It is believed to have spread across the country rapidly as the canals were built and during railway work of the industrial revolution. Such an exotic looker.
Spotty indeed! Aren’t mimulus only half hardy though?
Although on second thoughts if it comes from Alaska presumably this one isn’t!
How funny. You answered your own question Cathy.
