On a Monday Cathy https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2015/05/18/in-a-vase-on-monday-it-dont-mean-a-thing and other bloggers share vases of flowers with one another. It is such a charming thing to do, simple but heart warming. Now this Monday was a grey day with an enormous volume of rain to dampen the spirits, not to mention the hair, yet come 3pm the skies cleared and the sun shone allowing me to continue with planting in my garden. I stopped at 7pm in order to rustle up something for us to eat before parking myself in front of the BBC coverage of The Chelsea Flower Show. It was only after then, whilst taking the dog up the lane, that I remembered the vase!
A few snips of cow parsley from the hedgerow and three great fat flowers of sweet smelling white Lilac from the tree overhanging it. I did of course seek permission from my neighbour before helping myself to her blooms. The jug is a sponge ware which was sent to me containing blooms from a great English cut flower mail order company www.wigglywigglers.co.uk/wiggly-bouquet.html
So readers here it is.
On Tuesday. Have a great day.
I love this – very delicate – we had the same weather here! It is lovely to be part of your fragrant walk! I’m loving the lilac this year.
Thanks, I am glad you liked it. The Lilacs are wonderful yet once the flowers are over I immediately forget of their existence. Perhaps we are due a few warmer days so that their fragrance can fill the air, fingers crossed.
🙂
Thats beautiful, lanes of Cow Parsley are a really uplifting sight and they look lovely cut and in your vase.
Thanks Julie. I love to see the froth of cow parsley and was rather disappointed to see that they had been strimmed off along the road side. Health and safety no doubt!
Lovely, it looks as if you brought a bit of the countryside indoors with you. So wish we could see the Chelsea show here. Fingers crossed it will show up on YouTube eventually. I read about the Great Chelsea Design Challenge in the Telegraph and was able to find it soon after it was on TV, which was quite exciting. A month from today I’ll be at Tatton Park and then another eight days of garden touring. Can’t wait!
Thanks Marian. I was lucky enough to get to Chelsea yesterday and shall post a little about it. I am sure the coverage will be available soon, if not already. I have not visited Tatton Park so hope you will blog about it. Which others are on your tour?
Bodnant Garden, Levens Hall, Gresgarth Hall, Arley Hall, Wollerton Old Hall, Bridgemere Garden World, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Fountains Abby & Studley Royal, Parcevall Hall Gardens, York Gate, Scampston Walled Garden, Castle Howard (on the first day of the Flower Festival), and Harewood House, all in 9 days!
WOW what an amazing selection. Better be sure to have comfortable shoes packed. Should you plan to return another time, and fancy looking at gardens in and around gardens of the south east I can recommend a beautiful B&B in Winslow which has a stunning walled garden.
Beautiful! Love the frothy cow parsley and white lilac – the perfume from real lilac far surpasses anything you can find in a bottle. I have to admit to becoming quite glued to the coverage of Chelsea this week. Would love to go to the show but I’m happily settling for Southport Flower Show in August … not so far to go.
Thanks Elizabeth, we just need it to warm up a bit so that the Lilac and Cow parsley can fill the air with their glorious scent. I was lucky enough to get to Chelsea yesterday and there was a hail storm! Have you been to the Southport Show before? It is lovely to get to any of the shows, it helps to inspire ideas and who can resist flower candy!
gorgeous and so romantic – love the jug too!
Thanks!
And I love it too – all that froth. Gorgeous 🙂 And of course the blue patterned jug is perfect for showing them off. Thanks for sharing, whatever day of the week it is ps I am catching up on Chelsea a day behind but at least I am managing to see the coverage this year, in between other stuff 😉
Please excuse hiatus in response. What did you think of Chelsea? any inspiration?
I haven’t watched the whole coverage before and it was a welcome respite from head-down-on-my-laptop. Don’t think I would want to face crowds of 35,000 myself… There are a few plants I will look out for and it gave me an idea for a ‘sculpture’ too
