This morning I looked out from the kitchen window to see my roses getting a pasting from the rain. A number of blooms had disintegrated onto the ground, a covering of petals on the wet earth now the only remaining sign that there once was a rose.
So for this Monday I am sharing a survivor, “A Shropshire Lad”
I carefully set the bloom in the shallow water of a pretty teacup.
The teacup, saucer and tea plate are by Minton. A junk shop find, I was drawn to the green which is made up of a series of tiny circles.
Once I had placed the bloom I realised that the just seen golden centre of the rose picks out the golden yellow scroll pattern on the set.
The David Austin rose has a fragrant rose scent and at close quarters it is almost dreamy.
So not so much of a vase this week but I hope you like it nonetheless. Cathy took the idea of in a vase from her mother and has encouraged many other bloggers to share in this meme. Do take a peek https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2015/9/14/in-a-vase-on-Monday-red-red-wine
Really pretty, and the colour of the rose is just right for the cup and saucer, which has a little pink rose too.
Thanks Noelle, they do seem to be made for each other.
I disagree…this is a stunning vase in its simplicity. I love the idea and you have given me some ideas now…a beautiful rose beautifully displayed…well done!
Thanks , it has to be the easiest of arrangements and when I have done this before the blooms last quite well.
Yes, I agree the pink of the rose is a perfect match with that of the china, it’s a lovely idea to use the cup and saucer. Floating simple rounded blooms in shallow dishes is something that reminds me of south east asia.
Hard to picture those beautiful floating flowers and the strong light of se asia given the grey cool day here today, but yes, I know what you mean.
I love this pairing of a single rose with your beautiful tea cup. It is truly lovely and makes a statement bolder than if you made an elaborate arrangement.
Thanks Eliza. Cannot really call it an arrangement!
Such a perfect rose, Dorris – I love the arrangement of the petals, and it is details such as this that can be admired all the more easily when a single bloom is placed in a vase, or tea cup in this case. You wouldn’t want anything more elaborate in this cup (except a nice cup of tea!) as it has intricate details of its own. A lovely idea and thanks for sharing.
My pleasure.
The tea cup sets the rose survivor off just perfectly, Dorris! It’s too bad you can’t send some of your extra rain my way…
Kris I wish I could send the rain your way, it is pouring again. The weeds will be giants!
A blossom in a teacup. I like it.
I love your Minton cup and saucer and how beautiful the rose looks in it.
