Today is a most glorious Autumn day. For those who are interested in such things, it also happens to be Halloween. With this in mind I have put together a quick arrangement to share.
I would like to be able to tell you that I grew the squashes but that would be a fat fib. They came from Aldi. The dahlias seen in many vases now is Arabian Night and I have grown these.
I am not the biggest fan of Halloween or bonfire night only because the loud fireworks frighten the mutt. I was amused by a story told by my friend this morning who had an appointment with the dentist. When she arrived all the staff were dressed up, complete with full ghoulish makeup. When she saw her actual dentist she felt she should share her view with him: going to the dentist is scary enough without the staff dressing up!
So no costumes here just some Autumnal squashes, dark dark dahlias and a salt glaze tankard which was a gift from Sam for my birthday. Thanks Sam, just right for this arrangement.
Happy Halloween
I hope the dentist wasn’ t dressed up. It would be disconcerting having Dracula leaning over you with his hand in your mouth. I love your Arabian Night dahlias, one of my favourite.
Do you know Chloris, he was! Call me old fashioned but that seemed most misguided.
I don’t like Halloween but I love dahlias and pumkins, so your still life is much appreciated. Arabian Night is one of the prettiest – mind you, this year I grew lots of almost-black varieties. Fascinating things 🙂
Thanks Annette, I am happy to hear that you liked it. Which varieties did you grow, I am planning more for next year and love the darker, moody shades.
Chat noir, Karma choc, Jowey Mirella and Maroon Fox – sadly one colder spell (near frost) dampened their spirits, pity as they were still full of buds. Alas, next year 😉
Thanks Annette, they must have been amazing, I shall look them up. The last two I am not familiar with. Theres always next year for us gardeners 🙂
