Sandra at https://daffodilwild.wordpress.com/photo-challenge has set up a meme which appeals to me; her challenge is to post a photograph which ties in with the subject set. This week the subject is Winter.
‘Winter’ to me conjures up images of snow and ice, bright blue skies perhaps with sparkling frosts. This Winter has been very different, we have had mild, wet and windy weather, for weeks. I was tempted to dig out a snowy scene from previous years but felt that was not quite right. I looked at some of the sodden grey shots I have taken of the garden this month but found them, well just too grey.
Instead I have looked through some of the snaps I took on the rare frosty bright days that we had last week. The morning sunlight seemed to pull a curtain back through the gloom to reveal the beauty of plants, in this case Christmas Box.

Sarcococca hookeriana humilis
I love the way the frost is clinging to the perimeters of the leaves and how, where the light catches the crystals of ice, they twinkle slightly. The white flowers were just beginning to open but the cold seemed to have stopped the heavenly scent in its tracks.
As I write this the wind is howling down the chimney and the rain is moving closer. Good luck to those of you further North, especially in Scotland, your forecast is not looking good.
Oh yes indeed, especially pretty with the early glow of the sun – well done for capturing the moment. This is the first week I have caught a whiff of my sarcococca
Lovely shot, it really conjures up winter.
Thank you Chloris. A rare cold day this Winter.
A good choice, along with the euphorbia ‘Humpty Dumpty ‘ the Christmas box is the only plant in my garden that doesnt look depressed. It has been so mild, the first camellia flower opened this morning, in January!
Humpty Dumpty is a star in your garden. First camellia in flower shows just how sheltered the walls make your garden. Look forward to seeing it next time I am over
Love how you have caught that glisten Dorris. We need some more of that crisp sunny weather don’t we!
We could definately do with a cold snap, I find this windy weather awful, and I can’t do a thing with my hair!

Leaves with frost always look lovely don’t they? I have a Christmas box too.
Agreed, that they do. Is your Christmas box in flower now?
Yes, but it is quite old now and there aren’t many this year.
Lovely photo. The crystal edges on the leaves sparkle in the beautiful light. Here in Ireland we are listening to the wind whistling down our chimney also. Even had a bit of hail today, thought it is rare we get snow here on the Aran Islands. Have a lovely week.
Thank you! I hope storm Henry is gentle on you all.
