At the last jumble sale this dish was not fit for sale as it was chipped and cracked through. It was in the pile for disposal. Not fit for consumption maybe but very suitable for some Paperwhites in my kitchen. I like the blue / white  colour combination.

Narcissci Paperwhites are so easy to grow. Pop some gritty soil in your chosen vessel, arrange the bulbs on top. Add a little more soil or compost up to the point where the bulb starts to round inwards. A light watering and place by a cool window. You can topdress the soil with moss if the sight of the soil is not nice enough. Within a few weeks the leaves emerge and then the flowers. And such pretty, pretty flowers.

Highly scented, pure white, clusters of six or seven tiny daffodil like blooms open from each bulb. A packet will cost about £3 for 5 or 6 bulbs and they should last for a couple of weeks if not placed in direct sunlight.

It is not too late to pot some up now, they should be flowering in time for when the Christmas decorations come down. They will cheer a grey January day and fill your room with their heady slightly spicy scent. Go on, give it a go.
