Last Monday I shared memories of Summer which some of you may have looked at and thought ‘yuck’, they were rather brown. With that in mind I cut some Viburnum and a Hellebore at the same time. The Viburnum was in bud in the garden but tightly closed. ‘Ah ha’ I thought ( I did really think that exact expression), this could be good for next Monday.
This was taken last Tuesday:
As hoped, the buds have opened and are now filling the room with their rather overly sweet scent.
This is a first time appearance for the black glass stem vase. Part of a Christmas gift from Liz who had found it and a couple of others in a local charity shop. Perfect for my Mondays.
So today I have a tiny little burst of colour thanks to Christmas rose, Helleborus niger and Viburnum bodnantense Dawn.
There were no ah ha moments today but I expect many other contributors to Mondays vase will have lots of lovelies to share. Check out Cathys blog https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com

Have a good week and let’s hope it stops raining. I am awash thanks to Thames Water, a burst water main, no mains drainage and heavy non stop rain today.
How very elegant! I LOVE your arrangement, and that black vase – what a find! Hope you dry put soooooooon.
Thanks Sandra. I have to wait until the 18 th for TW but it has at least stopped raining now.
Yikes – that must seem like a long time to wait.
Eggs actly!
Perfect for your black vase. Viburnum is very welcome in January and a hellebore- what a treat. I hope you dry out soon.
That looks so stylish in the black vase. Beautiful! Hope your weather/water situation improves very soon!
Beautiful arrangement and photos, Dorris.
Thank you Jane
Winter flowers are so precious; you’ve made these simple beauties very elegant by using the black vase. Hope the rain stops for you soon. Here it is the wind which is driving me mad!
Pleased to report clear skies this morning Christina. Hopefully the wind has moved on too. Thanks for the nice words.
Hope the drains have been sorted – was it just your property or those around you too? It was wet enough with the rain without anything else, I would imagine. Your simple black vase of blooms is so elegant – and seeing your viburnum and Julie’s too I am definitely going to cut some of mine for next week, so there is unlikely to be any surprises in my vase!
I subscribe to your posts by email and got an email about Sunday and Tuesday’s posts but not Monday’s – and you didn’t get notification about my Monday post… Very odd – a two way blip just on that day do you think?
Gremlins? Thames Water have threatened to come tomorrow. It is outside my house but I fear the shrubs I have planted alongside the road will turn up their sodden toes and die. Viburnum is a good bet
Hope the shrubs prove to survive – all being well they won’t freeze while they are still waterlogged
It’s such a lovely combination and very elegant in the black vase! I quite like your brown flowers from last week too 😉 Hope your flooding issues are cleared up soon – it must be making things a bit miserable…
Thank you for your nice words. Four men, two vans have left a big hole today but hopefully the leak has stopped. When they will be back , your guess is as good as mine!
