Especially good to see this Dorris as I had to go back and change my post as I thought mine were painted ladies at first!
I had to refer to my book “a butterfly book for the pocket by Edmund Sandars 1939. It has lovely coloured plates making id easier.

Sounds useful – we have a newer book but I probably go to Google for speed if I want a quick answer! My butterflies wouldn’t keep their wings open long enough for easy identification…
