I have prepared some of the spent lavender flowers for drying. A time consuming task but worth the effort if you like dried lavender for around the home. A good tip is to hoover some up to freshen the air, especially if you have pets.
This lavender is not in a Vase and as such I feel I could be accused of misleading you with the heading “in a Vase”.
This is Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote’ in a box.
It may not be the strongest scented of the English lavenders but it is certainly the bluest.
This is a good time to trim up your lavender plants, taking care not to cut into old wood. A trim now will help keep the bushes neat and if the weather allows may generate some new flowers before the Summer is out. Cathy, as ever, is hosting the IAVOM and her blog has lots of delightful vases full of flowers. Monday eye candy for us gardening folk. Do take a look.
Hi Dorris. I dried some a few weeks ago as it was getting burnt, and I trim some of my older bushes right down to the ground occasionally and they come back as good as new. 🙂
My goodness Cathy you really do have green fingers if your older bushes rejuvenate.
Over the years I have lost the occasional bush in a cold winter, but they are tougher than you think and I get fresh growth from right down near the root. Our good drainage situation is probably a help. I do need to replace some of them now though, as they are mostly over ten years old. Last summer I chopped my Mum’s right down and it looked terrible (my Dad daredn’t do it for her I think!) but they have come back beautifully!
Wow ! With our increasingly wet winters I dare not. I reckon on 5 years here for lavender. 10? Amazing!
You have given me food for thought. Lavender is my second favorite herb but now that i live in a place where it gets down to minus degrees temperatures I am not sure if it would survive. But then again, i see plants come to life in the Spring that I would have never thought would survive here. I am going to your trick a try!

Thanks for the reminder to trim the lavender, I always forget to do it. Like Cathy I too have cut lavender down to the ground and they rejuvenate pretty well. Perhaps it has to do with the climate here.
I am not brave enough perhaps.
Box or vase or whatever, it doesn’t matter, Dorris, as well you know 😉 What are you going to do with this box of lovely dried lavender now?
I shall probably remove the stalks and bag it up sell for charity. (NGS)
