amaryllis, bulb, Hippeastrum, January, Saturday smile, white
I spent £2.50 on a pleasingly fat, brown, papery bulb before Christmas. I knocked the compost off and sat it on top of a Vase of water allowing the roots to reach the water.
The shoots grew and grew until a flower bud formed and today they opened.
I love the waxy white clean flower heads. Each of the two stems has three trumpet like flowers. Stonking value for money I reckon.
Enjoy your evening. D.
Lovely! And is that a third bud I can see? 🙂
There is! Really enjoying this bulb, what a bargain
Ha! White! Amaryllis is one of those flowers that happens to excel in white! Yours is a double that I am not familiar with. Mine were old fashioned single flowers types.
I am afraid I have no idea which variety this is as it was from an unnamed box marked either red or white. They were not wrong, it’s certainly white and I am enjoying it greatly. Thanks for commenting
The variety probably does not matter as long as you like it.
I do indeed
A bargain. Lovely flowers. xx
Wasn’t it just! Better value than a coffee in a plastic cup
Yes, what a bargain! Where did you buy it?
Berkhamsted market. No real information other than ‘red’ or ‘white’. Very pleased with it!
I thought it might have been an Aldi one until you said it was marked just as ‘white’. Similarly stonking good value though – and such fun to watch growing
Gorgeous, they are usually so expensive. And it is shorter than usual. Those very long stems are such a nuisance.
Thanks Chloris and I agree when they get too tall and bend over under their own weight, really annoying!
