52 Week Photo Challenge, happy, parson russell terrier, terriers

This is Kate the dog with some string on her nosey nose. She is nearly ten and yet still hurtles around as if she were much younger. She is always getting into trouble for her antics. She is high energy and has a permanent effervescence about her nature.

She is a Parson Russell Terrier and lives life as if she has nine lives. She makes me happy and infuriated  in equal measure.

This is my entry for the photo challenge this week. Pop over to Sandra at https:// daffodilwild.wordpress.com to take a look at the other entries or even better have a go, just remember to make a link back to the host.

52 Week Photo Challenge, abandoned, Champneys, container grown rose, garden gate, gate, patio rose

I could call this ‘Roses around the Gate.’ Featuring: a garden gate.  Plot: a garden gate rusting away, disguised by an unknown rose, waiting to be restored to its former glory.

abandoned-004

Beautiful.  Look at the roses.  How lovely to see these whilst we are in the depths of Winter.

abandoned-002

At first glance I was taken with this beautiful rose.  So many buds, such a pretty colour, the intriguing wrought iron of the gate behind.  As my eye focused in I saw that the rose was in an enormous terracotta pot.

abandoned-001

The pot shows itself to have stood there for some time, certainly through a Winter or two, the bottom of the pot is crumbling away. The beautiful, intricate garden gates are rusted and have had layers of chicken wire attached to keep something out, or in perhaps.  The gates lead into a walled garden which sadly has been rather left to its own devices.abandoned-003

Waiting to be rescued and restored to their former glory.

Joining Sandra of https://daffodilwild.wordpress.com who is one of the hosts of the 52 week photo challenge.  Take a look at the other gates shared and should you fancy joining in, next week the word is Happy.

52 Week Photo Challenge, Christmas decorations, crochet, knitting, the Chilterns, Tring town, wool, wool bombs

In the Town where I live some lovely folk take it upon themselves to bomb the Church and bus shelter in wool.

Yes really.

Even the post box gets a woollen wrapping.

I love that people waiting for a bus get woollen seat covers and the Christmas tree is covered in baubles and chains all of the wool variety.

This is my offering for wrap, the post box wrapped in a woollen snow scene. Sandra at https://daffodilwild.wordpress.com and Rainbow junkie are hosts of this meme. I suspect this to be right up their street, although not actually, as they both craft such clever things.

I should not mind a bit of that sunshine, right now, or those bees or those blue salvia nemorosa.  No point hunting, we will have to wait until about May.

52 Week Photo Challenge, Christmas, knitted mouse, socks

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

a certain sort of sock

Although the 52 Week Photo Challenge states ‘socks’ I am offering you and readers of Sandras blog https:daffodilwild.wordpress.com a rather grainy shot of a singular silent Christmas sock, silent as in ‘nothing stirred, not even a mouse’.

Given that it seems to be acceptable for the shops to bombard us with their cheesy Christmas adverts, so I hope I can get away with this effort.

The sock has never been worn.

No mice were harmed in the making of this entry.

The knitted mouse was a gift from Sam rather a few years ago. (I could hardly show you my gardening socks now, could I).

Be sure to take a look at Sandras blog as there may be some pairs of crafted, proper socks.

A monster in the undergrowth?

Not exactly, rather a caterpillar.

The Pale Tussock, Calliteara pudibunda to be precise.

A bit of a monster to look at?

This is a monster for the 52 week challenge hosted by Sandra at https:// daffodilwild.wordpress.com

Take a look, don’t be scared.

zig zag

Stairs

La Chapelle des Penitents-Blancs

In September 2013 I was lucky enough to go away to Menton, France with a group of friends for some late Summer sunshine.

This is the staircase up to the very beautiful setting of La Chapelle des Penitents- Blancs.  It is a baroque church built in the 1680s.  I loved the clear lines of the balustrade and the zig zag it created.

52 Week Photo Challenge, Autumn, garden visit, Great Dixter

PA204705.JPGI have not managed to take part in the photo challenge for a few weeks. Hosted by Sandra at https://daffodilwild.wordpress.com.   The subjects have been tricky when looked at from a garden perspective or I have been busy, so it is a relief to see this weeks challenge is “Autumn”, much simpler.
The picture above demonstrates the beauty of grasses in the garden in low Autumn light. Taken last Autumn at Great Dixter.  It was a beautiful weather day, cool and bright with a little warmth left in the sunlight.  The light was dropping quickly and I managed to capture it as it began its descent.

I imagine there will be some lovely Autumn shots to look at on Sandra’s blog, take a look.

52 Week Photo Challenge: deep

52 Week Photo Challenge, Colour, deep, Delft, Holland, Hollyhock, magenta, mexican pink, Netherlands, pink

Deep  adjective

(0f a colour) strong and dark:

I took this picture last weekend in Delft, Holland. I was walking to the botanical gardens, of course(!) alongside the canal. The houses were all very well cared for with no front garden, the inhabitants had window boxes or perhaps a large pot by their door and this house had a Hollyhock growing between the cobbles. The windows and doors were painted dark blues or grey/ black.

I was struck initially by the eyecatching colour of this Hollyhock and then the contrast of it to the deep blue/ black paintwork. Its creamy white centre and the pollen sat upon the petal of deep pink. A deep shade of magenta, the depth of its petal colour changing from a sort of Mexican pink at its edge to a deep magenta at its middle. The colour seems all the more deep against the dark background.

That is my look at the word deep for this weeks photo challenge. Sandra is one of the hosts for the photo challenge. Her lovely blog is https://daffodilwild.wordpress.com

Take a look at other entries on her page and for those of you who saw this as my Wordless Wednesday entry, sorry to be boring and repeat myself but it was too delicious a colour not to show again.
