In a vase on Monday: the final vase of the decade

amaryllis, cut flowers, dried flowers, hydrangea arborescens Annabelle, in a vase on Monday, spray paint

As we are about to enter the 2020s, I have to ask, is it just me or does the start of the new millennium seem not that long ago?

It is a beautiful morning here with a clear sky and a touch of frost showing on the grass but my vase to share with you and our lovely host Cathy are Christmas leftovers rather than something gathered from outside today.

Cut amaryllis stems.

These were purchased from the market on 20/12. I kept them in water in a cool room until Christmas Eve when I brought them through to the warmth of the kitchen. Here they opened overnight and are looking fresh and lovely some ten days later. I prefer these creamy green trumpets to the traditional red.

My other vase has dried Hydrangea Annabelle flowers, sprinkled with a gold spray. Aerosol cans do not work very well these days and to be honest I was disappointed with the finish on these.

I have used a frog in the base of the pot to hold the stiff stems in place.

The tiny clusters of flowers are so pretty but I still feel the gold looks remarkably like the dried flowers: brown!

That’s it for 2019. I shall be joining Cathy when I can in 2020 and encourage you to join us too.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2020 wherever you are. Thanks for reading. D.

In a Vase on Monday: this old thing again

amaryllis, blue, blue glass, Cadiz, in a vase on Monday, Mallorca, Spain, white

Apologies to those of you who saw this as my Silent Sunday post.

This is the last flowers from my bargain Amaryllis bulb I purchased before Christmas. A cut stem as suggested by the in a Vase host Cathy.

The blue glass bottle was a water bottle from a cafe in Cádiz last Summer.

The fabric is a piece of hand woven linen, typical of the island of Mallorca. It was an off cut from kitchen cupboard curtains, no doors, in a place Brother in law Dorris used to live. A little blast of Summer.

Have a good week and remember we are nearly half way through February which can only mean that Spring will really be on its way.

Last Monday I shared my Amaryllis bulb with you. At that point it was in bud, full of promise.

Now look at it!

A cheeky vase to share with Cathy and you on this Monday. Do take a look at her blog to see some lovely vases full, just what you need on a Monday.

Have a good week. D.

Saturday smile: blooming

I spent £2.50 on a pleasingly fat, brown, papery bulb before Christmas. I knocked the compost off and sat it on top of a Vase of water allowing the roots to reach the water.

The shoots grew and grew until a flower bud formed and today they opened.

I love the waxy white clean flower heads. Each of the two stems has three trumpet like flowers. Stonking value for money I reckon.

Enjoy your evening. D.

amaryllis, in a vase on Monday, January, the promise of things to come

I expect that your Christmas decorations are packed away by now and January has moved in.

January: teasels in the fields near me

There is a sparse look to my surroundings yet I rather like it like this; clutter and chintz are definitely not for me. I prefer clean lines and believe less is more, except for Christmas.

This Monday has been very grey, barely any daylight and bitterly cold. Morning dog walk

The garden is quietly snoozing behind the brown ground and the prospect of finding suitable material for Cathy’s vase, slim. However in anticipation of the post Christmas emptiness I purchased an Amaryllis bulb.

I enjoy seeing the roots growing in the vase water. This has been in the warmth of the house for about two and a half weeks. It has grown triffid like.

I suppose if we actually see a little sunlight over the next few days the bud will open to reveal a beautiful creamy white Amaryllis trumpet of a flower.

In the meantime I am enjoying watching the growing process. I wonder what other participants of the Monday Vase have found. Do pop over and take a look.

Have a good week.D.
