Aster, eupatorium, gourds, in a vase on Monday, Miscanthus sinensis, November, Thomas Hood

Do you remember that poem about November? By Thomas Hood.

“No sun – no moon!

No morn – no noon –

No dawn – no dusk – no proper time of day.

No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,

No comfortable feel in any member –

No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,

No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! –

November!”

Now hang on a minute, that’s nonsense. Outside there is a frost, the sun is shining in a clear blue sky and whilst there may be no fruit, flowers or leaves there are these.

All a bit brown, perhaps but there is a beauty if you look carefully

Closer

I like the way the centre of the white aster links to the seed heads of the eupatorium and miscanthus. I also like how the ridges on the glass bottle pick up those on the gourd.

So my vase for today is saying No but yes. I am sharing it with you and Cathy. Have a good day.

basil, bell peppers, Erigeron, eupatorium, persicaria affinis, tomatoes, Tuesday View

This morning around 7am the garden was looking like this.

Some closer shots

Persicaria affinis spreading nicely

Erigeron is spreading around the gravel

It is a beautiful time of year yet I think there is definitely an Autmnal look to these pictures. Yikes, Autumn is around the corner.

Joe pye weed

At the garden where I work the greenhouse is churning out tomatoes, basil, cucumber and bell peppers.

Harvest and Autumn approaches.

Take a look at Cathys lovely blog as she is the host of the Tuesday view.

Anemanthele lessoniana, Borage, Borago officinalis, eupatorium, Joe pye weed, Pheasant's tail grass, sanguisorba candensis, Tuesday View

Today is a beautiful hot Summers day.  The weather man appeared to have got it right as I nipped out with my camera at around 7.30am.  A clear blue sky with the sillouette of the Thalictrum Elin.

The trouble with high sun is that it somehow bleaches the colours of the plants and makes them tricky to photograph.  Earlier in the morning however I was able to capture the view before the sun moved onto them.P8235270.JPG

Grasses look wonderful in the sunlight but are rather difficult to picture clearly.  This is Pheasant Tail grass and its shadow this morning.

I hope you enjoyed this weeks view.  Be sure to take a look at Cathy’s blog https://wordsandherbs.wordpress.com

Finally I want to share the beautiful blue in the weed bed.  More about that another time. Borago officinalis.P8235276.JPG

Morning view with bright sunlight

I have not managed to update my Tuesday view for a couple of weeks and the main difference seems to be the bleaching of the grass Calamagrostis Karl Foerster.

The Tuesday View is hosted by Cathy at https://wordsandherbs.wordpress.com It is a meme for us to watch and share the development and seasonal changes to an area in the garden.  If you would like to join in please be sure to add a link back to Cathys blog.

Eupatorium, Joe pie weed is now showing its full colour and has reached a height of about 1.5m.  I have had to water it the last few weeks as it shows droopy leaves when it begins to dry out.

Flowers of the Joe pie weed mingle with Verbena, Thalictrum elin towers above

The purple of Joe pie sits happily with the ever delightful Verbena Bonariensis. The Verbena has self sown itself around the beds and is suggesting a take over bid.  The magnificent Thalictrum Elin has finished flowering and its remains tower above.

Echinacea purpurea

Since last time I posted the Echinacea has opened its petals to reveal its lovely form.  I love a daisy shape flower, don’t you?

The forecast remains pretty good for this week so I hope you get a minute to sit in your own garden and feel the grass tickle your toes.  One final thing I must show you, not in this view but in the garden cutting beds.

Lily

The scent of this Lily is so powerful I bet you can almost smell it.

eupatorium, Thalictrum Elin, Tuesday View

I was late with my Monday vase this week and now I am a day late joining Cathy https://wordsandherbs.wordpress.com with the Tuesday view.

20160705-230024-82824905.jpg
The main difference this week is that the grasses are opening their seed heads whilst Thalictrum Elin is pretty much open.

20160705-230356-83036826.jpg
The roses are in need of dead heading and some plants could do with a little support. Eupatorium is continuing in an upwardly direction and its flowers are beginning to form.
Thanks Cathy for hosting this meme. Dorris.

In a vase on Monday: Purple haze

Aster, Astrantia 'Roma', eupatorium, in a vase on Monday, sesli montanum, Verbena bonariensis

Overnight the weather slipped from Summer into Autumn. Gentle rain, what as children we were told is a “soft day”. So with the soft light in mind I have picked a haze of purple.

20151005-192319-69799520.jpg

The purples centre around the froth of a forgotten named Aster, to this I have picked, for the first time Eupatorium. These were planted in the Spring this year and they are growing well, reaching up to about hip height. I hope next year they continue growing upwards to nearer 2 meters. The dark tight buds open to a lighter shade of claret.

20151005-193314-70394866.jpg
There is some of the most pleasing of flowers, Verbena bonariensis; who could resist their iridescent shade of purple.

Astrantia Roma is included, still flowering it’s little cushions off. Then finally I have added two tiny very precious blooms from my latest fave: Seseli montanum. You have to look closely to see the tiny clustered bloom.

I hope you are having a good Monday and will take the time to join Cathy to see some of the other Monday vases.
