Morning! It is Monday again, and this week I have collected a few sprigs of Astrantia major, a couple of the newly formed globes from Echinops bannaticus and, for a gentle injection of scent,  I have added the pink rose ‘Gertrude jekyll’ and the soft white rose ‘Madame Alfred Carriere’.  Both roses are gently scernted calling you in for a closer inspection and are from David Austin Roses.  These are a mini snap shot of what is happening in my garden which is not getting much attention from me at the moment as all my time is going into packing.

This little collection of flowers is a reminder of all the lovely things out there and is sat in the middle of the kitchen table presently marooned amongst big, brown, cardboard boxes.

I am pleased to join Cathy who started this lovely meme. It has encouraged me to collect what is outside and enjoy it at close quarters inside; there is no way I would have thought of a floral display on the kitchen table in the middle of packing the house up! Hellebores, In a vase on Monday, pussy willow

Today I have picked a couple of stems of pussy willow and a few stems of Hellebores for a vase.  The vase is a rather old bottle which one of my colleagues uncovered in the garden last year.  He does not think that it is especially old but none the less it too has come from the garden.  This little collection is for the boss who will have put it in the middle of her kitchen table.

Hellebores are at their best now and as the weather is rather mixed, it is nice to bring one or two blooms inside in order to admire their beauty at close quarters.

Today I managed to get six whole hours in the garden before the rain took over and beat me back. Six whole hours, amazing.  One of the tasks I carried out was to remove last years leaves from the various Hellebores, now that their blooms are beginning to reveal themselves.

When I got home I got distracted and forgot to put together my vase for Monday. By now it was dark and so with torch in hand I carefully selected three flowers for my vase.

This vase is actually a 500ml chemistry flask and I chose it for the fact that its narrow neck supports the shy downward turning Hellebore heads and allows me to see them.

Hope you approve.  Stay cheerful in the midst of this ghastly stretch of wet weather.

This is what is in a vase on Monday chez Dorris.  But it’s Tuesday I hear you cry, well yes, I am aware of that, but when you read on you will see why I have chosen to publish this late.

I read of a charming idea to share a picture of what is in a vase on a Monday on blogs by Chloris, Cathy and Annette.  Chloris started on this theme last week and I thought it was a lovely idea and took up her suggestion to take part.  So here is my effort for this week.

Then when I looked into sharing the link I realised that the flowers should be something from my garden or that I have grown.  Well Reader I have a confession to make, I admit that I did not grow these Paperwhites rather I purchased them from the market and put them in this old medicine bottle which my lovely sister gave me, with some painted twigs that I had kept from an earlier arrangement.

This bottle has a lid which still contains weird, medicinal powder, I find this a little bit creepy but I do like the clear crisp black lettering on the white background.  I looked up the strange words,  Rhei Radic Pulv. and understand that it is a rhubarb based medicine used to purge the system.  I have read that it is bitter in flavour, and acts on the spleen, stomach, large intestine, heart and liver channels.  Well I do not propose to try this out, but thanks Carrie, it makes an interesting vase.

Next Monday I will make sure I do a proper effort of  ‘in a vase’.  To see real examples take a look at:
