Ammi majus, Bupleurum rotundifolium, cheers, cornflower black ball, cornflower polka dot mix, cornflowers, Dahlia Arabian Night, Dahlia mignon.mixed, Echinops, in a vase on Monday, Persicaria amplexicaulis Firetail, tankard, Verbena bonariensis

Today’s Vase is actually a beer glass and the flowers are a pleasing selection, well pleasing to my eye, apologies if not to your taste. They are from my homegrown patch,  which was a large patch of bare soil just a few months ago, onto which I planted a few seeds.

There are Dahlia mignon and Arabian Night, Ammi majus, Verbena bonariensis and the lime green of Bupleurum rotundifolium.

White perennial sweet pea, pretty but alas with no scent. Cornflowers Black Ball, Polka Dot Mix and just your regular, good old delightful cornflower. Jo, if you are reading, I hope you like them.

Now pop over to Cathy and take a look at the other Monday vases. They will not disappoint.

Dahlia Arabian Night, Denby Craftsman mug, Geum "Mrs Bradshaw", in a vase on Monday, Persicaria amplexicaulis Firetail, pink Cosmos, Sanguisorba officinalis 'Red Thunder', Verbena bonariensis

It is a beautiful morning here and you can feel the heat building up for a proper Summers day.
My vase today is this

Dark buttons of Sanguisorba officinalis and darts of light showing through the blinds

The dark Dahlia ‘Arabian knight’ is mixed with pink Cosmos, Verbena bonariensis, Geum ‘Mrs Bradshaw’ and for Cathy, my Percy: Persicaria amplexicaulis ‘Firetail’.

Placed in a green pint mug I have used many times, it is a Denby 200 year celebration edition which came in a silly Danish Christmas game we played, organised by my lovely Sister-in-law, Helena, a few years ago.

Now you have seen my Monday vase, pop over to Cathys blog to see some of the other many vases shared.  If you fancy having a go yourself, be sure to add the link back to https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com

Now I shall place it in the shade of the hall to help it last more than a day.

The shots of red are courtesy of Cotinus Grace and Persicaria ‘Firetail’ (at rear) Persicaria affinis in foreground.

At the end of each month I shall be posting an update of the garden to record its progress. This is a meme hosted by Helen at https://patientgardener.wordpress.com/2015/10/30/end-of-month-view-october-2015.

Saturday 31 October was a glorious day and first thing the light was almost perfect Autumn light. There looked to have been a very light frost as seen by the grey green tone on the grass

and the leaves of the Geums.  How hairy they are.

Autumn foliage
The claret red in the fore ground is Dahlia ‘Arabian Night’ with purple of Verbena Bonariensis.  The silver foliage at rear right of the bed is the pineapple scented shrub Cytisus Battandieri.

There is a lot to do over the Winter, not least the clearing of a dead, weed infested boundary. In the meantime I am trying to get on top of the weeds in the borders before mulching the heavy clay soil.

Given that this time last year only the Horse Chestnuts were growing, it would be fair to say that I am pleased with progress.  I am concerned that I may lose one or two plants this Winter as the clay is solid in places, time will tell.

Anyway I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Astrantia 'Roma', Dahlia Arabian Night, David Austin Roses, in a vase on Monday, Persicaria amplexicaulis Firetail, Rose 'Gertrude Jekyll', rose a shropshire lad, Verbena bonariensis

20150920-205317-75197589.jpg
Monday is here again and I am sharing a seasonal mix of what I think of as an early summer bloom, Astrantia Roma, summer roses and autumnal dahlias. Such is our weather

20150920-210100-75660869.jpg
These were all planted this year and I am very pleased with progress. The astrantias were slow to pull away but once they did they have more than tripled their size. Such a charming cushion of a bloom, perfect for a vase and an essential for a garden border to my mind.

The roses are A Shropshire Lad and Gertrude Jekyll . Both are David Austin roses, both are pink and both smell divine. This is their second show of flowers.

The Dahlia Arabian Night is a stunner, dark velvet perfection.

Added to this little group is Percy. This Percy is Firetail, Persicaria amplexus Firetail and Verbena bonariensis. I am happy with this little group and hope you like them too. Have a great week and be sure to check out the Monday vases with Cathy at https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2015/
