Cercis canadensis, cornflowers, hydrangea arborescens Annabelle, July, poppies, seed heads, six on saturday, stipa tenuissima, Succulents

Hydrangea arborescens Annabelle is opening, surely a sign that it is summer. These are flower filled mops, in a creamy lime colour tone that looks as if it was lifted from one of those Farrow&Ball colour charts. Gorgeous.

This is my first of the Six On Saturday I’m sharing with our host The Propagator

2. Another sign of summer has to be that the succulents are outside

Not the best examples but loved nonetheless.

3. Forest pansy is a beautiful specimen and a real favourite of mine.

Back lit the colour is arguably unbeatable. Cercis canadensis.

4.

Haze. This haze is created by the delightfully tactile Stipa tenuissima. I love these grasses for their movement; the slightest breath of air is all they need to move.

5. Opium poppies

These are very short lived but so pretty and wonderful for bees . Today they have finished flowering and I am left with fat grey seed heads.

I love these almost as much.

6.

Cornflowers are such a wonderfully intense blue, not unlike a Sir Terence Conran shirt. Great for cut flowers, great colour in the border. An easy plant. Sprinkle some seed in the spring and Bobs your uncle.

Whether Bob is your uncle or not, you see that this selection includes some of the easiest peasiest plants to grow. What are you Six favourites today? Join us.

Have a lovely weekend wherever you are. Thanks for reading. D.

Ammi majus, calendula, Echinacea purpurea, echinops ritro, grown from seed, nigella, poppies, Tuesday View, Verbena bonariensis

The garden benefited from the rain on Saturday, a freshness has returned to the planting after a long dry spell.

Taken this morning before the sun had broken through. There is a pink haze thanks to the verbena and grasses.

The Echinops ritro are peeping above.

All tall and full. I must just show off my Echinacea in the opposite border.

I do love them.

That was my quick dash round before work just before the sunshine emerged. Now take a visit to words and herbs Cathy and catch up on her view.

Oh one final thing, my few packets of seed are looking rather good:

Enjoy your evening. D.

Dryopteris filix-mas, English country garden, perennial sweet pea, poppies, poppy seed heads, succulent planter, Suffolk, summerhouse, Tuesday View

Today I am sharing my Tuesday view but it is not actually mine. Going against the spirit of the meme Cathy hosts, I hope I will be forgiven, this is my view today.

A long narrow garden with brick and pebble paths there is no grass to maintain. Instead the whole garden is packed with plants. There are half a dozen trees, including a couple of mature apples, a beech and an ornamental weeping pear.

There are rambler roses and honeysuckle clambering around. These predate the new planting of white foxgloves, poppies, evening primrose, perennial sweet pea and knautia macedonia. Valerian, fennel, alliums and geraniums to name just a few.

There are lots of grasses including Stipa gigantea, stipa tenuissima and stipa arundica. Through the planting there is a stepping path of sleepers set in the ground to enable easier access for maintenance and for complete immersion through the plants. Low growing thyme and vinca minor have been planted around the timbers.

It is a delightful sight especially as I do not have to work on it, I can just enjoy its prettiness. Further down the garden there are a number of ramshackle buildings including a summer house, log store, studio and shed. Yes this garden has not one but five buildings. In the first photo you can see the exterior of the brick built studio. This is the approach to the summerhouse.

How sweet is this.

At the top of the garden which is shadier there are ferns and hellebores. I like this combination, perennial sweet pea and fern Dryopteris filix

I hope you enjoyed this view, I think it’s super.

Poppy seed heads.

Another look at the succulent planter.
