Alchemilla mollis, Calendula Indian Prince, calendula Oopsy Daisy, David Austin Roses, Fennel, Foeniculum vulgare, hydrangea arborescens Annabelle, in a vase on Monday, Rose "Lark Ascending", Rose The Pilgrim

A late Monday vase from me to share with you and our host Cathy. An old Dundee Marmalade pot, a frog and a bunch of gentle citrus coloured flowers. Citrus isn’t gentle, I hear you thinking and I know that, but these are shades of yellow orange and lime so work with me! Oh and the frog, in case you are wondering, is not an amphibian.

In the mix are lemons from Rose The Pilgrim, fennel, and limes from alchemilla mollis and Hydrangea Annabelle. Orange is in the form of Rose Lark Ascending and Calendula Oopsy Daisy and Indian Prince.

Yellow The Pilgrim
Lime alchemilla and orange Lark Ascending
Orange, lemon and lime
(Sort of)

The frog? Amphibious but not amphibian.

Ta dah

Have a good week wherever you are and thanks for reading. D.

Dahlia Bishop of Auckland, David Austin Roses, in a vase on Monday, Rose "Lark Ascending", rose a shropshire lad, rose Brother Cadfael, Rose The Pilgrim

Goodbye

Said the Bishop

Adieu

dear Rose.

Frost has bitten the garden here. Roses which were still happily flowering have been scarred by the cold.

Dahlias in the ground are now black, finished for 2019. I moved my pot grown dahlia under the shelter of the summer house and saved the Bishop of Auckland for a while longer.

Joining Cathy this Monday. Have a good week wherever you are. D.

In a vase on Monday: is it really October?

Astrantia major, cornflower, David Austin Roses, in a vase on Monday, October roses, Rose 'Gertrude Jekyll', rose a shropshire lad, Rose The Pilgrim

The weather this weekend has been incredible, dry, mild, bright and crunchy, (if weather can be crunchy that is).

I have been raking up barrows full of conkers, leaves, rotting windfalls. So far so Autumn

And yet the mild weather has allowed another flush of roses. A Shropshire Lad, Gertrude Jekyll, the Pilgrim.

Surprisingly there are a few Astrantia in flower and even some Cornflowers.

These roses do not have quite the same strength of smell at this time of the year. The flower heads may droop thanks to their slightly weaker stems yet there is no doubt that these roses are a lovely sight in mid October.

I am joining Cathy and the other regulars with in a vase on Monday. Have a lovely week. D.

In a Vase on Monday: stripes

David Austin Roses, Hydrangea arborscens Annabelle, in a vase on Monday, Leucanthemum, October, Rose The Pilgrim, shasta daisies, stripes

Seeking out a spot in direct sunlight first thing, I placed my bottle with flowers on a serviette, not so much because it has stripes but because the green is similar to Hydrangea Annabelle.

As I snapped my pictures on the phone I realised the stripes from the blinds were casting shadows.

The rose is The Pilgrim which has a faint rose scent. Planted next to the shasta daisies, I like how the rose colour picks out the yellow centre of the daisies and blends with the green of the Hydrangea .

So that’s it, my selection on this the 1 October. Joining our host Cathy Have a good day. D.

Dahlia Arabian Night, david austin rose Gertrude Jekyll, Hydrangea paniculata limelight, in a vase on Monday, Rose Lark Ascending, Rose The Pilgrim

The day has flown by, so quickly before I get dinner ready, I had better grab some flowers for a vase.

Roses are having a resurgence right now, dark pink is Gertrude Jekyll, yellow is The Pilgrim, peachy is Lark Ascending and the very pale pink one which was already here, name is unknown.

Added to the roses are Hydrangea Limelight. It has struggled in the heat as it is in full sun until about 2 pm and has browned in places.  I  had to add the rather dark velvet dahlia Arabian Night.

I especially like the lime against the pink and peach colours.

So pop over to Cathy at https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com and see a host of other vases which are sure to help you unwind on a Monday.

Have a good week

Achillea, Alchemilla mollis, Cosmos, Dahlia mignon.mixed, Dahlias, David Austin Roses, in a vase on Monday, poppy seed heads, Rose The Pilgrim, turquoise milk glass

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

All sorts

The heat is building up over the next couple of days and already the dog is flaked out on the cool flagstone floor.

I grabbed a few of the last roses, this one is The Pilgrim from David Austin. A buttery yellow old style rose with a strong rose fragrance I do like it but find that the weight of the blooms cause it to flop over. A chop to shorten the stem ensures the heads are supported by the sides of the glass. To the rose I have added yellow/ lime coloured Alchemilla mollis and Achillea which fades from dark to pale pink. P7185162.JPG

In a turquoise glass jug I have put the strong pink coloured Cosmos with more of the Alchemilla mollis and Achillea.  I have also added the seed heads of a few poppies.

More Alchemilla has been added to the small Dahlia mignon.  This overwintered in the cutting bed which I am very pleased about.  Finally I have a few of the tiniest Dahlia which I chose because I do love the look of a daisy.P7185168.JPG

So there you have it folks my vases for Monday.  Do take a look at Cathys lovely blog https://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com to see some more Monday vases, certainly more cheerful than world news.
