astrantia, cerinthe, cornflowers, geraniums, in a vase on Monday, roses

I picked flowers for my friend to use at her garden opening yesterday.

A few Astrantia Roma and major

Geranium Johnson’s blue and Ann Folkard

Clover type flowers from Trifolium purpurascens.

Then roses

Lark Ascending

Gertrude Jekyll

A Shropshire Lad

Morning mist

With some alchemilla mollis and cerinthe I tied up three little jam jar sized posies.

One larger bunch

Oh and a few poppies and cornflowers thrown in for good measure.

These are joining fellow bloggers and Cathy. Perhaps you could join us, it’s simple: pick your flowers from the garden, arrange, discuss and add a link to Cathy’s blog as above. Simples.

Have a great day. D.

Alchemilla mollis, cranesbill, fox and cubs, hardy geraniums, in a vase on Monday, June, Knautia macedonica, lychnis, perennial sweet peas, poppy seed heads, roses, Suffolk

It is always interesting to visit someone else’s garden don’t you think? This garden is delightful, loose, free, the epitome, if you like of a cottage garden. Consequently todays vase is the same.

There is an unknown variety of a pink rose and five different hardy geraniums. They are pink ones, white and purples. There are perennial sweet peas in soft pink and a dark pink lychnis. There is Alchemilla and the wild flower known as fox and cubs.

Dark claret buttons of Knautia Macedonica repeat the strength of colour from the lychnis.

The garden planting scheme was created by designer Laura Arison.

The jug is a complimentary green colour is stamped “Mersey” on the base and most likely will have been one of the owners finds. The colour repeats the poppy seed head colour. Pleasing.

Joining Monday Cathy with this vase.

Have a lovely Monday and thanks for reading. D.

In a Vase on Monday: starting with the palest pink

apothecary bottles, garden flowers, in a vase on Monday, Rose Morning Mist, roses

The wind has blasted the roses relentlessly for a few days. These are some of the snips.  Starting with the palest pink, very strongly scented rose. It was against the fence outside my gate when we moved here but had never flowered. Donkey poop sorts all such issues, thanks Sally, the owner rather than the quadruped.

A delicate, baby girl pink with some Erigeron which is seeding around the drive nicely.

Then there is an orangey, warm toned pink coloured rose called Morning Mist which was a gift from Linda and Matt. It has not needed any ‘special’ assistance, flowering with its pretty open cup blooms, profusely all Summer. It has a gentle rose scent, the bees love it and it is quickly taking over its wall.

The red rose below is one that I would not have chosen and yet I have three of them, planted by a previous occupant. Eye catching maybe, the colour of those roses sold on February 14th yet they do nothing for me: they do not repeat flower, they fade as they open and have no scent to speak of.  In case you wondered, I am not a fan but they certainly stand out against the black painted weather boards of the barn. Here they are in one of my little bottles.

Too red?  Unlikely to appear in this feature again.

These are my flowers this Monday to join all those lovely, like-minded bloggers out there who are sharing their garden flowers with Cathy.

Have a great week. D.

in a vase on Monday, November leftovers, roses, stem flask

Cathy, I only have leftovers of Summer to share with you today. HTTPS://ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com

A climbing rose, inherited with my garden, name unknown. Still hanging on, sending out flowers even though it is November and we saw sleet yesterday.

A pretty orange shade of pink. One stem three buds. Loving the leftovers, have a good week.

20151012-132010-48010457.jpg
Greetings, to you this Monday.
I am joining Cathy at Ramblinginthegarden.wordpress.com/2015/10/12/in-a-vase-on-monday-
The weather forecast I heard is for colder, dry weather, with a risk of frost overnight. As I looked at the flowers in my garden I decided to pick some of my roses. Once the frost touches them, their soft delicate petals will turn brown as if bruised and they will fail to open. Not wishing to waste them, I decided to bring them indoors.

20151012-132837-48517150.jpg

Once cut and arranged I realised quite how brilliant it is to have roses, right here, right now, in mid October.

20151012-133028-48628120.jpg

The colours of the roses, unashamedly pink, mixed with a sprig of fresh lime Alchemilla mollis is so summery. They smell of summer too.

20151012-133511-48911947.jpg
So whilst the shops and magazines are full of tweeds, woollens and long boots, the garden is holding on to Summer. Bonkers, not conkers.
